Instagram Post Led To 51 Pound Marijuana Bust

#KRITICIZM - An alleged marijuana sales post on Instagram triggered a police investigation in Greenville, North Carolina, that ultimately led to the seizure of more than 51 pounds of marijuana. Authorities said officers began examining the social-media account on July 29 after it allegedly advertised between eight and ten pounds for sale. Investigators reportedly connected the account to 31-year-old Christopher Bennett and later located him during a traffic stop.

During the stop, officers said they detected the smell of marijuana and found Bennett carrying approximately 3.5 grams. Police then obtained a warrant to search a residence associated with him. Inside, investigators reported discovering three large bags each approximately three and a half feet tall containing a combined total of more than 51 pounds of marijuana.

Bennett was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana following the search. Court records cited by authorities indicated that he was being held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond. The case illustrates how publicly posted social-media content can become evidence in a criminal investigation; however, the allegations remain accusations, and Bennett is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
